Method
Season the apples
- In a bowl, toss apple wedges with melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly coated and glossy.
Air fry
- Preheat the air fryer to 375F for even caramelization.
- Arrange apple slices in a single layer in the basket and air fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway, until caramelized and tender.
- If needed due to crowding, work in batches to keep the edges crisp instead of steaming.
Serve
- Serve warm apples over vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
Notes
For the crispiest edges, keep the apples in a single layer and shake them halfway through so hot air circulates. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350F for 3-4 minutes. Freezing is not recommended because the apples soften after thawing. For a dairy-light swap, use plant-based butter and dairy-free vanilla ice cream while keeping the caramel sauce.
